In October 2008, the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette and the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine put out a call for professional and amateur artists to submit entries for the 2009 public art exhibition "Dog Days of Summer". These lfiberglass dog sculptures would be decorated by artists then be placed on display throughout Lafayette, West Lafayette and on the campus of Purdue University. Additionally, a few  dogs would be selected to take their show on the road as a part of the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine’s traveling exhibit in celebration of its 50th Anniversary.
